Forty merchants from Lansing and Oak Glen (Torrence Avenue section) met in the Village Hall on June 30th, 1947 and voted unanimously to go ahead with the organization. Elections were held and the organization - at that time called the Lansing Business Association - had a roster of officers and 108 members.
Since the inception of the Chamber, it has worked to provide not only support for its members, but to provide support to its community in the form of events. Its first year in existence, the Chamber of Commerce coordinated the decoration of the Village for the holiday season. One hundred and ten wreaths were displayed throughout the business districts and two large Christmas trees were displayed.
Not limiting its attention to the winter holiday season, the Chamber of Commerce eventually implemented many of the most popular Lansing events including the Good Neighbor Day Parade and the Santa Arrival, Taste of the Holidays, Santa House, and much more!
